Peter Svec obtained a diploma in 1979 and PhD in 1984 from the Institute of Physics, SAS.

Since then he has worked in the Department of Metal Physics at IP-SAS, becoming top-level research fellow in 1997 and DrSc in solid state physics in 2003.

In 1993 he became member of the International Advisory Committee for Rapid Quenching and in 2002 vicechair of 'NANOSMART' Center of Excellence of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.

He is a specialist in kinetics, thermodynamics and structural analysis of phase transitions in disordered metallic alloy systems and has a wide variety of related experience including modeling, structure investigation and thermodynamics.

He has published more than 350 articles in the field and is active in the organization of conferences and editing their proceedings.

He coordinates and participates in a large number of National and trans-National collaborative research projects.
