Ales Kroupa graduated from Masaryk University, Brno, Faculty of Sciences in 1983 with an M.Sc in Solid State Physics. He obtained his PhD at the Institute of Physical Metallurgy, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, Brno in 1990. From 1991 to 1993 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at McMaster University, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, under the leadership of Prof. J. S. Kirkaldy.
Since then he has been a Researcher and Senior researcher, Institute of Physics of Materials AS CR, Brno.
He is a specialist in thermodynamics of metals, modelling of thermodynamic functions and phase diagrams in multi-component systems, phase diagrams assessments from the theor. and exp. point of view.
He is currently the head and joint head of several national and international grants (e.g. in COST 531 action - Lead free solders). He was a warded the Vanadium Award in 1996 (The Institute of Materials) for the paper Precipitation behaviour in a medium carbon, Ti-V-N microalloyed steel. |
