Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences
The Institute is aimed at experimental and theoretical research in physics. Close collaboration with many research institutions in Slovakia and abroad has been established during the existence of the Institute. The Institute provides scientific education for graduate students to obtain Ph.D. degree and for undergraduate students to prepare their diploma theses.

Department of Metal Physics has studied rapidly quenched alloys - metastable, disordered, amorphous, nanocrystalline and enhanced-miscibility systems. It has carried out theoretical and experimental studies with dynamic computer simulations.
Facilities include rapid quenching from the melt, ICPES analysis, quantitative TEM, dilatometry, resistometry, DSC/DTA, metallography inc. microhardness, mechanical testing, thermal treatment.
IP has developed lead-free solders and brazing foils for ceramics & steels (PECO-Copernicus Project CIPA-CT93-0239)- 2 papers.
