Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science, Polish Academy of Sciences
The history of the Institute goes back to 1953, the year of establishing the Metals Department in Krakow on the initiative of Prof. Aleksander Krupkowski. For many years, the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Sciences has been conducting basic research focused on the production of materials (primarily metallic ones) characterized by desired mechanical, physical and chemical properties
IMIM is a leading centre for Fundamental and Applied Materials Science - it publishes 200 papers per year.
Its work includes metallurgical processes, thermodynamics of liquid and solid alloys, hydrometallurgy and electrolysis of metals etc..
Facilities include lead-free alloy metallurgy, modelling/experimental evaluation of surface tension - 1998.
Now with Tohoku Uni. Japan Associated Phase Diagram and Thermodynamics Committee with Central Europe consortium COST 531 participant inc. partner in 5 projects.
2002 Pb-free project - Sn-Ag-Cu with Bi and Sb additions - with 3 Polish RTD partners
IMIM has a high-temperature emf method for thermodynamic studies, DSC/DTA CALPHAD software, dilatometry, surface tension, viscosity, solution calorimetry - enthalpy
