IPM - Institute of Physics of Materials, Academy of Sciences
IPM is a Government funded materials science institute. The Department of Mechanical Properties has undertaken a systematic investigation of causal interrelation between the micro-structure, its development during the exposure of materials to mechanical loading of different types and under different temperatures on one side and the macroscopic mechanical properties of materials on the other side.
IPM carries out basic research on metallic materials including the study of structure and selected physical properties and physical nature of processes occurring during creep, fatigue and other types of mechanical loading.
Facilities include annealing furnaces, metallography, analytical electron microscopy and software for thermodynamic modelling
IPM has carried out thermodynamic modelling and experimental studies of phase diagrams of lead-free solders, mainly In(Bi)-Sn-Zn, with further addition of Pd. It is a COST 531 network participant - especially in Group project headed by Prof. Ipser. It is also working on a National project, supported by Ministry of Education, related to the COST 531 network.
