EMPA is a research institution of the Swiss Federal Government.

Its facilities include: Wave soldering equipment, Environmental Testing equipment and a Metallurgy laboratory including SEM/EDXFIB.

EMPA has been working in soldering since 1990. It is the Project Leader for the EUREKA 'LEADFREE' Reliability Testing project.
